Electric Vehicle Training Centre Walsall College

With the opening of a new training centre, Walsall College is leading the push for expertise in electric cars. The Light Electric and Alternative Fuel (LEAF) Vehicle Training Centre helps experienced mechanics and technicians improve their skills. It also improves the job chances of locals interested in green technologies and sustainability.

Walsall College approached 52 Degrees North to design their new graphics for the Electric Vehicle Training Centre.

According to the Institute of Motor Industry (IMI), just 6.5 per cent of technicians working in garages and dealerships are adequately trained to repair and service battery-powered vehicles, even though electric vehicle sales accounted for 23% of the new vehicle market in May.

The institution’s training will help firms bridge the local skills gap. Learners can acquire IMI-accredited maintenance, repair, and charging equipment credentials by utilising cutting-edge training vehicles, diagnostic equipment, and tools.

Jatinder Sharma OBE. The principal and Chief Executive at the college said:

“This unique facility brings the emergence of electric and hybrid vehicles full circle. Businesses now have the means to upskill their workforces, train new people and show their commitment to zero-emission motoring.

“It’s also the lynchpin for an exciting collaboration between key education and industry partners. All of whom will help bring about further innovations in technology and sustainability, contributing to this sector’s future growth.”

The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) provided adult training possibilities at Walsall College through its adult education budget.

College employees and learners will also be exposed to various equipment and e-learning modules through a partnership with Electude, an e-learning solutions provider.

“We are extremely pleased to be partnering with Walsall College, an educational leader in automotive,” said Catherine Treanor, UK Business Development Manager at Electude.
